Access Transition Opportunities

The Access Transition Programs are designed to provide First Nations Students enrolled within the Faculty of Health Sciences and the Faculty of Science, with additional academic and personal/cultural supports that will increase their likelihood of success and prepare them for entry into selected Professional Graduate Schools.

The Learning Resource Centre

The Learning Resource Centre has become a highly specialized support service to the First Nations students at Western. The Learning Resource Centre has been the focal point on campus since our move to the University Community Centre. It has been a base for their ongoing personal, cultural, social and academic support. It serves as a mainstay for learning and a safe atmosphere in which students can enter into new realms of academic relationships with one another, their community and their culture. The Centre and staff provide a field of meaningful, appropriate support mechanisms for First Nations students to assist with this growth.

Visiting Elders Program

The Visiting Elders/Traditional Counsellors Program provides Indigenous students, staff and faculty of the University with the services of Indigenous Elders/Traditional Counsellors. The Elders/Traditional Counsellors offer spiritual and cultural support, and serve to enhance cultural sensitivity within the University community on a bi-weekly basis throughout the academic year (September – April). Every appointment is approximately half hour in length.
