Union Opportunities for TAs and Postdocs (PSAC Local 610)

PSAC Local 610 is composed solely of the Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs) and Postdoctorals (Postdocs) of the University of Western Ontario. Although PSAC Local 610 is a Directly Chartered Local of the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC), GTAs and Postdocs establish the priorities and policies of the Local. All TAs and Postdocs at the University of Western Ontario are understood to have specific rights and responsibilities that are defined by Collective Agreement.

There are opportunities to get involved by becoming a department steward, running for an executive position, or joining a local committee. Participating in the Local is an excellent way for GTAs and Postdocs to contribute to the community and gain worthwhile experience.

Stewards play a big role in the Local, and getting involved as a steward is a great organizational and networking experience. As a steward, you will also get a chance to learn more about the many aspects of on-campus labour relations and academic employment that the Local helps shape.

Becoming a committee member is a great way to be involved. Committee members play a crucial role as direct point of access for union members who need information about University and Local policies, procedures, and benefits. Nomination forms are available from our website.
